Olesya Petrova (Mezzo soprano)
Olesya Petrova graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in 2008 (class of Irina Bogacheva). She has been a soloist with the St Petersburg Conservatoire Opera Theatre since 2007. There she has performed Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Konchakovna in Borodin’s Prince Igor, Lel in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden, Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Polina and Countess in Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades, Ioanna in Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans, the title part in Bizet’s Carmen, Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Ulrica in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. She has also performed Lyubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Tsar’s Bride at the Perm Opera and at the Novosibirsk Opera, and Amneris in Verdi’s Aida in Bangkok.
In the 2011/12 season, she performed Konchakovna at the Zürich Opera House and Ulrica at the Greek National Opera in Athens. In 2013, she took part in an opera gala concert at the Verona Philharmonic Theatre and performed the mezzo-soprano part in Verdi’s Requiem in Sydney and at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Her engagements in 2014 included Azucena in Verdi’s Il trovatore at the Hedeland Opera, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Madelon in Giordano’s Andrea Chenier, and Marfa in Khowanschina at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Ulrica at the German Opera on the Rhine and at the Greek National Opera, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Greek National Opera and Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Montreal Opera. In 2015, she performed among others Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Metropolitan Opera, Verdi’s Requiem at Théâtre des Chatelet in Paris, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with David Robertson in Sydney and Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther at the Verdi Theatre in Trieste.
Her future engagements include Verdi’s Requiem with the Danish Radio Orchestra under the batons of Fabio Luisi and Placido Domingo (Copenhagen, 2017), Federica in Verdi’s Luisa Miller at the Verdi Theatre in 2016, Emilia in Verdi’s Otello at the Liceu Theatre (Barcelona, 2016), Amneris in Montreal (2016), Amelfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Golden Cockerel at the Madrid Royal Theatre (2017). Her répertoire also includes mezzo-soprano parts in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Prokofiev’s Duenna.
She collaborates with many Russian theatres, concert halls, orchestras, and chamber ensembles and has worked with Valery Gergiev, Leo Kremer, Fabio Mastrangelo, Vladimir Fedoseev, and other renowned conductors. Her concert répertoire includes cantatas and oratorio works by Bach, Pergolesi, Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Berlioz, Wagner, Mahler, and Prokofiev.
At the Mikhailovsky Theatre, Olesya Petrova performs mezzo-soprano parts in the operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni, Antonín Dvořák, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky. In 2016, she performed the Old Gypsy Woman in Rachmaninoff’s Aleko in the concert dedicated to the anniversary of Sergei Leiferkus at the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
