Otar Jorjikia (Tenor)

Biography

Prize-winner at the Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singer’s Competition (Moscow, 2016, 1st prize)

Graduated from the Tbilisi State Vano Sarajishvili Conservatoire in 2013. In Conservatoire opera studio he sang Tamino (Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte), Alfredo (Verdi’s La Traviata), Nemorino (Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore), Duke of Mantua (Verdi’s Rigoletto), Lenski (Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin). 

In 2011 he became a prize-winner at the International Lado Antаneli Competition (Tbilisi). He also took part in the young singers’ festival An International Opera Workshop in Sigriswil (Switzerland) and in 2012 he attended master-classes conducted by Renato Bruson and Edda Moser (Italy). 

Since 2013 he has become a soloist of the Georgian State Academic Paliashvili Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he debuted as Don Alvaro in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. In 2015 he sang parts of Malkhaz(Paliashvili’s Daisi) and Don Jose (Bizet’s Carmen) in the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre’s productions. Otar Jorjikia also performed tenor part in Haydn’s oratorio The Creation with the Georgian National Philharmonic Orchestra, under Davit Kintsurashvili.

Otar Jorjikia made his Mariinsky Theatre debut in 2016 as Gabriele Adorno in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra with Placido Domingo under Valery Gergiev.

His European debut took place back in 2004 at the Raimund Theater (Vienna) as part of the educational programme Performing Arts Studios. Since then the singer has appeared at the Teatro all’Antica (Sabbioneta, Italy), the Teatro Regio (Parma), the Teatro Comunale (Bologna), the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi (Busseto). 


Highlights of the season 2016/17 include his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre singing in Simon Boccanegra with Placido Domingo, conducted by Valery Gergiev, and winning first prize in the 2016 Galina Vishnevskaya International Opera Singers Competition. 

During the season 2017/18, Otar made house debuts with Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse (Macduff, Macbeth), Opera Australia (Don José, Carmen) and Polish National Opera (Duke, Rigoletto). On the concert platform, he performed in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Orchestre National de Lyon under Mo. Alan Gilbert. 

In the season 2018/19, he appeared in Attila and Simon Boccanegra at the Mariinsky Theatre by invitation of Valery Gergiev.

In the 2016/17 season, he trained in Zurich’s International Opera Studio where he sang Gustavo III (Un Ballo in Maschera), Malcolm (Macbeth), solo tenor in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem. In the same season, he made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre (La Traviata, conducted by Tugan Sokhiev).

As a guest soloist, he has appeared at the Polish National Opera (Duke in Rigoletto), Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre (Rodolfo in La bohème and Alfredo in La Traviata). During the 2017/18 season, Otar makes company debuts with Opera Australia (Don José in Carmen).
