Olesya Petrova (Mezzo soprano)
• Recipient of the second prize at the XIII International Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Competition (Moscow, 2007). • Recipient of the second prize at the I
International Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Artistes’ Competition (Moscow, 2006).
• Prize-winner and recipient of special prizes at the II All-Russian
Competition of Vocal and Piano Duets Three Centuries of Classical Romance (St
Petersburg, 2004). • Recipient of a scholarship prize and the Hope of Russia
Grand Prix (2003–2004).
Olesya Petrova was born in St Petersburg. Studied from the Rimsky-Korsakov
School of Music. After two years, she entered the St Petersburg State
Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, class of Irina Bogacheva. In 2005 she took part
in a recording of Alexander Izosimov’s vocal cycle Songs of the Beautiful
Stranger. Since 2007 she has been a soloist with the St Petersburg Conservatoire
Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
Olesya Petrova has a busy touring schedule, including opera productions and
performances of vocal symphonic works. She has performed solo roles in Rossini’s
Petite Messe Solennelle (Deventer, Netherlands), Mozart’s Krönungsmesse
(Etlingen, Germany), Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (St Petersburg and Białystok,
Poland) and Penderecki’s Matins (Białystok, Poland). She has performed in towns
in Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic, Poland,
Finland, Japan, Norway, South America and Scotland. She took part in a
production of Massenet’s opera Cendrillon in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
