Federico Santi was born in Turin. He studied orchestral conducting at advanced courses and master-classes held by Fulvio Vernizzi, Yuri Ahronovitch, Isaac Karabtchevsky, and Vladimir Ponkin. He received the 1st prize and Special Prize of the Theatre of the Opéra de Nice at the Luigi Mancinelli Opera Conductors’ Competition in Orvieto in 2008.

Santi has worked as a concertmaster, chorus master, and repetiteur in Italian theatres. As an assistant conductor, he has collaborated with Claudio Abbado, Carzo Rizzi, Alberto Zedda, Bruno Campanella, and Paolo Arrivabeni. He has conducted performances of Manon Lescaut, Il trovatore, Don Carlo, Nabucco, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, La voix humain among others.

In 2015, Santi was invited as a coach and consultant in Italian repertory at the Mariinsky Academy for Young Opera Singers. He has conducted concert performances of operas La sonnambula, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Il Pirata, Lucrezia Borgia, La favorite. In the 2018/2019 season, he prepared the premiere of a new production of Lucia di Lammermoor as an Assistant Conductor.
