Jan Latham-Koenig (Conductor)

Jan Latham-Koenig is Music Director of the Novaya Opera in Moscow, Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM in Mexico City and Artistic Director of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra in Bruges, Belgium. Current and future engagements include THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN Teatro Regio Turin, the UK debut of Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM, concerts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and multiple performances at Novaya Opera and with Flanders Symphony Orchestra. He was awarded the prestigious 2014 Russian Golden Mask Award for Best Conductor for his performances of TRISTAN UND ISOLDE with the Novaya Opera.

Most recent concert engagements include appearances with Evgeny Kissin and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Qingdao Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, and Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen.

Most recent operatic engagements include PRINCE IGOR on tour with the Novaya Opera to Israel Opera and London Coliseum, MACBETH and MADAMA BUTTERFLY Savonlinna Festival, BILLY BUDD Göteborg Opera, OTELLO New National Theater, Tokyo, ORFEO ED EURIDICE State Opera Prague, LA TRAVIATA Royal Opera House, IL VIAGGIO A REIMS and LE NOZZE DI FIGARO Finnish National Opera, MADAMA BUTTERFLY Polish National Opera, THAÏS Göteborg Opera and Novaya Opera, I PURITANI Vienna Staatsoper, TRISTAN UND ISOLDE State Opera Prague, THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN Deutsche Oper Berlin and LOHENGRIN Tampereen Oopperan, Novaya Opera and appearances at the Ljbliana Festival, Emilia Romagna Festival and Brescia Bergamo Festival with Virtuosi di Milano.

Other acclaimed appearances have included Henze’s VENUS UND ADONIS Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, TOSCA Opéra National Paris, Bastille, JENŮFA and HAMLET Royal Danish Opera, KING ROGER Teatro Massimo di Palermo, PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE Canadian Opera Company, BEATRICE ET BENEDICT Chicago Opera Theater, PETER GRIMES and I LOMBARDI Teatro Municipal Santiago, and DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES BBC Proms, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires and Opéra National du Rhin, which won the Claude-Rostand Best Regional Production Prize 1999, and the Diapason d’Or for best opera video in 2001.

Maestro Latham-Koenig has previously enjoyed Music Director positions at Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and Opéra National du Rhin. He has been Principal Guest Conductor at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Filarmonica del Teatro Regio di Torino, as well as serving as Artistic Director of the Young Janacek Philharmonic. Since first making his conducting debut with MACBETH Wiener Staatsoper, he has returned to Vienna to conduct over 100 performances, following his appointment as permanent guest conductor in 1991.

Mo. Latham-Koenig released his first album with the Filarmonica del Teatro Regio in a programme of Poulenc, which was voted Record of the Month by BBC Music magazine. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London, before winning the coveted Gulbenkian Fellowship.
