Classical Ballet in 3 acts

The Imperial Russian Ballet Theatre will welcome the dancers from the St. Petersburg State Academic Leonid Yacobson Ballet Theatre, who will present a premiere of The Queen of Spades, a production based on an eponymous short story by A.S. Pushkin and set to music by P.I. Tchaikovsky. The show is being staged by Iñaki Urlezaga (Argentina), a renowned danseur and choreographer, former principal at the Royal Ballet. Other members of the production team include the internationally acknowledged set designer Ezio Frigerio (Italy) and the costume designer Franca Squarciapino (Italy), who received an Oscar for her work.


The new ballet, inspired by Pushkin's The Queen of Spades story, will contribute to celebrating the great Russian poet's heritage on his 220th birth anniversary. It will also be part of the International Theatre Olympics 2019.

The show is being rehearsed by the following ballet troupe members: Elena Chernova and Sofia Matyushenskaya (Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, winner of the State Youth Award and of an International Contest Diploma) as Lizaveta; Kirill Vychuzhanin, Andrey Sorokin (winner of multiple international contests and the State Youth Award), and Stepan Dyomin (winner of multiple international contest diplomas) as Hermann; Svetlana Golovkina and Angelina Grigoryeva at the Countess; Elena Chernova, Anna Skvortsova, and Irina Silantyeva as Polina; and Konstantin Kilinchuk, Egor Burba, and Andrey Gudyma (winner of the Golden Soffit St.Petersburg Theatre Award) as Tomsky.

The ballet will be accompanied by the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra.

Conductor: Alexander Titov, Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation.
