Andrei Uvarov (Dancer)
People’s Artist of Russia (2001). Prize-winner at the International
Ballet Competition in Osaka (1995). Recipient of the Benois de la
Danse prize (1993) and the Spirit of Dance prize awarded by
Ballet magazine (2003).
Principal Dancer with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, which he joined in 1989
after graduating from the Moscow School of Choreography (in 1995 he also
graduated from the Moscow Institute of Choreography). He performs lead roles in
the ballets Giselle (Albrecht), Swan Lake (Albert), The
Sleeping Beauty (Dйsirй), La Bayadиre (Solor), Don
Quixote (Basilio), Raymonda (Jean de Brienne, Yuri Grigorovich’s
version), Leonid Lavrovsky’s Romeo and Juliet (Romeo) and ballets by
Neimeier and Balanchine. He was the first performer of the roles of Prince
Siegfried (Bolshoi Theatre, Yuri Grigorovich’s second version) and the Second
Movement Soloist (Symphony in C). His repertoire also includes
Dreams of Japan, Charms of Mannerism and Lea, choreographed by
Alexei Ratmansky.
