Leonid Karev (Organist)

Leonid KAREV (1969) is a composer, pianist and organist. Born in Russia he has lived in France since 1992.
He studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and at Conservatoire National
Superieur of Paris like composer, pianist and organist. He graduated from Ecole
Normale Superieure de Musique in Paris as a composer. His symphony Dulce
Memoriae was awarded Sacem prize and a prize at the Gino Contilli competition in
Italy and his piece for choir Ave Maria was awarded at the Guido d’Arezzo
competition in Italy. He is also the First Prize winner of Marcel Duprй organ
Competition in Chartres (1998), and the First Prize of honor winner of the UFAM in
Paris (1996).
He is a keen chamber music recitalist and vocal coach, both in baroque music and
romantic repertoire: graduated from the City of Paris Conservatory (1st Prize in
Collaborative Piano as singers' accompanist) and the University of Paris
(Performance Masters "The art of song recital"; Doctorate in Linguistics
"Pronunciation adaptation in classical singing") he is qualified professor of
collaborative piano (specializing in singers' accompaniment).
His musical partner list includes Agnes Mellon, Йric Aubier, Andrй Cognй, Jean
Bйlliard, Daniel Grйnel, Serge Delmas, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Jean Tubйry, Philippe
Bernold and many others.
Actually his is a professor at the Conservatories of Paris and Yerres, organist at the
Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption church in Paris and of the Bertrand Cattiaux organ of
the Saint-Mйdard church at Brunoy (France).
In his music Leonid Karev has continued the Russian tradition adapting it to
contemporary compositional ideas. He has given many organ concerts in Russia,
France, USA and other countries. His compositions have been performed at different
festivals and many other music events.
