Alexander Gorbunov (Trombone) Alexander Gorbunov was born in Kaliningrad in 1978. He started his music studies with trumpet lessons at the Glier School of Music (class of G. Nosov), then switched to trombone at the Rakhmaninov Music College studying with V. Voronkov. In 1995 he entered the St.-Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Prof. V. Sumerkin).
Gorbunov is a prize-winner of several competitions such as the Rimsky-Korsakov Open Competition for the Wind and Percussions in St.-Petersburg (2000, 1st Prize), International Competition in Markneukirchen (2002, 1st Prize), the International Trombone Competition in Budapest (2005, 1st Prize).
After graduation he worked at the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra under V. Gergiev. He performed with such renowned conductors as Y. Temirkanov, N. Santi, K. Achenbach, J. Conlon and others.
Alexander Gorbunov played his solo concerts in Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Germany, Hungary.
He performs solo with piano, chamber and symphony orchestras.
At present Alexander Gorbunov is the First Trombone of the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra under V. Spivakov.
