Gala Performance of the Mikhailovsky Orchestra under the baton of Vasily Petrenko

This maestro, who began his career at the Mikhailovsky Theatre, is now the acknowledged leader of the younger generation of conductors, a musician of international stature with a Classical Brit Award — the ‘Oscar’ of classical music — to his credit. He has appeared in the world’s leading theatres: the Paris Opera, the Zurich Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival, and other prestigious international venues. Vasily Petrenko is also Principal Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2013 he will be taking up a similar post with the Oslo Philharmonic. At the gala concert on 31 December, he will conduct a programme of symphonic and opera music. Masterpieces by Bernstein and Gershwin will be performed by the Mikhailovsky Theatre Orchestra and artists from Europe and the USA.
