The St.-Petersburg conservatory is based in 1862 under A.G.Rubinshtejn‘s initiative - the oustanding pianist, the composer and the public figure, at guardianship of Great Princess Elena Pavlovny. In 1887 Emperor Alexander III has enjoined to reconstruct a building of the Big theatre on the Theatrical area for the first in Russia the maximum musical - educational establishment. Competition of projects was won with work of architect V.Nikolja (1852 - 1902).
On the third floor of a conservatoire building of V.Nikolja has designed a concert hall and has named it" the Hall a quartet of assemblies ". In a decor of a hall motives of an early classicism have incorporated to elements of a rococo, symmetry - with freedom of the refined smooth lines. The harmonious unity with a decor was made with a list of the ceiling representing a celebration of art (artist A.Rjabushkin). Wooden chairs are created specially for a hall in 1896 in Vienna. Conviviality of furniture is emphasized with ancient crystal lusters and a sconce.
In 1920 to a hall the name of the director of the Conservatory of A.K.Glazunov (1865 - 1936) is appropriated. From time of the first concert (December, 12 1896) the hall has kept up to now an ancient interior and unique acoustics. Since August, 2000 till May 2001 in the Hall scale restoration works were carried out. Revival to open concert activity of the Hall of a name of A.K.Glazunov who is included in number of the best chamber halls of Europe on the historic -cultural value and unique acoustics, - a gift of the first Russian Conservatory to Saint Petersburg to celebrating 300 - years anniversary of city.
